We are also thinking ahead for the summer - if you are interested in working the front counter/icer position, and will be here through the summer, please come by! This can be a part time or full time position.

If you would like to chat more about a future with us or have questions about the positions, please send us an email here.

Come by for our open interviews! The next one will be Saturday, 3/23 and Monday, 3/25 from 11am - 3pm. Bring your resume and references, we’d love to meet you!

Baker

The baker is mainly responsible for making and baking all cake and cupcake batters, cookie doughs, pies and pie fillings, icings, and other seasonal treats.  Other duties include taking orders over the phone/in person, filling orders, icing cupcakes, and occasionally helping customers when the counter staff is busy.  We’re very team-oriented here, and are able to seamlessly move about the bakery to help each other when they need it.  We like to have fun and joke around, but we always maintain a professional appearance and demeanor with the customers and with our fellow Sugar employees.

You will be required to lift and move 50# bags of flour and sugar.  We do a lot of cleaning throughout the day - that flour and sugar gets everywhere - and we all pitch in to do dishes and clean the bakery.  Shifts are generally 8 hours, and can begin as early as 5 am, and could end as late as 5 pm.  You’ll be working both morning and afternoon shifts (with the potential for some night shifts as well).  We are closed on Sundays, and can be flexible with schedules, but do require that you are available leading up to major holidays (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day/Graduation, Thanksgiving, Christmas).  We are always closed on the actual holiday, except for Valentine’s Day.

Pay is $13/hour, plus shared tips. After 90 days, you will be eligible for health insurance reimbursement (up to a certain amount, BEGINNING ON JANUARY 1st of the following year) and full dental insurance after 90 days (both for full time employees only). We have a few shared parking spaces available for those who drive to work.  If you are not food safety certified (through ServSafe or another agency), we will pay for your time to get certified (it is required to work here).

The biggest things we are looking for in a baker are friendliness/approachability, cleanliness, ability to multi-task and handle many things happening at once, responsibility and professionalism, an upbeat attitude, and the ability to handle stressful and busy situations.  Home bakers are welcome to apply!  We are happy to train the right person!

Icer/Counter Position

For this position, your main roles will be icing cupcakes, helping customers, and maintaining a clean environment.  We will teach you how to ice cupcakes, along with other basic prep, such as making curds, simple syrups, etc. You will be responsible for assisting customers with not only in-store purchases, but placing future orders over the phone and in person.  A full and in-depth knowledge of our menu is crucial - you will be expected to learn it.  We have an open kitchen, so we like to keep everything tidy and neat.  Cleanliness is very important.

We operate as a small team - there are about 10 of us in total.  We all help each other out.  We're a tight crew that gets along very well and likes to have fun together, but we always maintain a professional and courteous atmosphere.  We work very hard and enjoy making people's day with our delicious desserts.

This job is very physical - you will be standing almost the entire shift, and may need to move 50# bags of flour or sugar (not very often).  We all pitch in to do dishes, clean the bakery, and sweep/mop the floors every day.

Hours for this position vary widely, but in general there are two shifts - a morning shift (starting at 7 am and ending between noon and 3 pm), and a closing shift (starting anywhere from 11 am to 2 pm and ending at 5:30 or 6 pm). We can be much more flexible with this position than with the baking position - if you are in school or have other commitments, this might be better for you.

This is suited for someone who likes to learn, be around people, laugh, work hard, has a lot of energy, and enjoys being part of a team.  Full time or part time are available, and we require some weekend and definitely holiday availability (we are closed on most holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas, but are incredibly busy the days/weeks leading up to those days - that is when you will be required to work).
